The extension ShadowKeys provides missing keys for Apple USB Keyboard and iBook or PowerBook built-in keyboard, and other Macintosh or PowerBook with an ADB keyboard.
WhatΓÇÖs New in Version 1.2
The keys combination for Forward Delete key code is not interpreted when the Command modifier key is held down. It's mean that you can now use the Finder's shortcut to empty the Trash, or the Photoshop's shortcut using the Shift/Option Delete keys combination. This can be reversed while holding down the CapsLock key.
SKSettings behaves like a Control Panel when closing its main window.
ShadowKeys and SKSettings work fine under Mac OS X 10.0, Classic environment only. None native version under Mac OS X 10.0 will be released.
ShadowKeys is now a freeware. Mainly because I will work abroad as a volunteer and I will not be able to maintain and update this software before the end of 2002.
WhatΓÇÖs New in Version 1.1
Any other Macintosh or PowerBook support has been added, and particularly for iBook and PowerBook G3. The key combinations can be now chosen between two modifier keys: Shift or Option, and all key combinations can be deactivated.
>> iBook and PowerBook G3
The built-in keyboard has a new right-hand virtual Command key replacing the Enter key, close to Space bar. This functionality can be deactivated. The Forward Delete key code can be created with the key combination Shift+Delete or Option+Delete. The iBook and PowerBook G3 can also have an attached Apple USB Keyboard (see below for more details about Apple USB Keyboard support).
>> iMac, G3, and G4 with an Apple USB Keyboard
In addition to the Num Lock key providing the Forward Delete key code, now the Forward Delete key code can be created with the key combination Shift+Delete or Option+Delete.
The missing function keys F13 to F14 can be created with the key combinations Control+Shift+Help, Control+Shift+Home and Control+Shift+PageUp respectively for F13, F14 and F15.
>> other PowerBook and Power Macintosh with an ADB keyboard
Only the Forward Delete key functionality has been implemented using the key combination Shift+Delete or Option+Delete.
Compatibility and System Requirements
ShadowKeys 1.2.1 works with the iBook or PowerBook G3 built-in keyboard and iBook, PowerBook, iMac, G3, or G4 with an Apple USB Keyboard. ShadowKeys 1.2.1 is compatible with other PowerBook and Power Macintosh with ADB keyboards or built-in keyboard.
ShadowKeys 1.2.1 and SKSettings 1.2 work fine under Mac OS 8.5, 8.6 and 9.x.
Note: the SKSettings 1.2 application runs only under Macintosh equipped with a PowerPC processor (like Power Mac, iMac, iBook and PowerBook), for 68K support please contact Opus Software.
ShadowKeys has been tested successfully with many applications and particularly with Adobe FrameMaker, QuarkXPress, AppleWorks, VirtualPC, MS Office, and several developer tools.
Note: In VirtualPC the Num Lock key cannot be used as Forward Delete key instead use the key combination Shift+Delete or Option+Delete.
Incompatibility
Microsoft Word 2001: A problem has been found with Microsoft Word 2001: using Shift+Delete key combination as a forward delete key, it does not work fine: Word 2001 beeps sometimes when you type fast.
Workaround: release the shift key before to use the key combination or change in SK Settings the key combination like Option-Delete (avoid the shift key modifier) or Fn-Delete on PowerBook.
Note: other third-party extensions have the same problem. We are trying to solve this particular problem.
